Joseph Burns

Joe Burns did not waste time in making a good first impression – his 140 on Marsh Shield debut in the 2010-11 season was just a sign of great things to come. The Queenslander played his part in his state winning the Marsh Shield the following summer, further continuing his form to win the Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year award in 2013. Following yet another flourishing season with Queensland in the 2014-15 season, Test cricket finally came calling for Burns when he replaced an injured Michael Clarke in the home series against India. Despite a promising debut series which saw him notch up two fifties, he was dropped for the next two series. Nonetheless, Burns fought his way back to the side during Australia’s summer of 2015-16, going on to add three more hundreds to his tally in just eight Tests. After being one of a number of players rotated through the top of Australia’s Test order in recent years, he played a consistent role as David Warner’s opening partner during the 2019/20 home season.

Burns struck an impressive 140 in his Marsh Shield debut during the 2010/11 season.
